The Wonderful World of Color
The Wonderful World of Color
This 15-page unit study teaches children all about color, from the light spectrum to mixing secondary colors from primary ones. All required printables and verbiage is included. Can be used with a single student or a whole classroom.
Overview
This unit was created to introduce children to the wonderful world of color. The ROYGBIV spectrum, color theory for beginners, color mixing, and all the associated vocabulary are covered in this lesson. This 15-page lesson is an "open-and-go" unit and includes all necessary instructions, printables, and questions to ask your student(s) as you cover the material.
You will need to gather the following materials in order to be fully prepared for this unit:
*Playdough of each primary color (red, blue, yellow). A recipe for homemade is included, but store-bought is totally fine.
*Markers, crayons, colored pencils, or paint dobbers; one of each color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet (purple)
*One or more of the story books from the recommended reading list.
Setting and Time Required
This unit was originally developed for a homeschool co-op class, so the verbiage of the directions assumes multiple children are present. However, a classroom or group setting is not necessary for use of this unit; the questions and activities can easily be modified to suit a single child or sibling set.
Depending on the number of students and the level of interaction, this entire unit may take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to complete, but it can also be broken into segments.
